When an SME has completed all questions assigned to them within a section, Responsive should proactively tell them what to do next and allow them to complete the required section-level workflow action immediately, rather than requiring them to remember that a separate section button must still be clicked.
Proposed UX / acceptance criteria for 5609
- When the final assigned question in a section is marked Answered or Reviewed, trigger a clear next-action prompt.
- Suggested prompt: “You’ve completed all of your assigned questions in this section. Are you ready to submit?”
- If the SME confirms, Responsive should execute the required section-level completion / submission action automatically and advance the workflow to the next participant.
- If the SME declines, the section should remain open and the user should have an obvious persistent way to complete the action later.
- The prompt should be role-aware: Authors should receive the appropriate Author completion action; Reviewers should receive the appropriate Review completion action.
- The UX should reduce or eliminate the need for SMEs to understand the distinction between question-level toggles and a separate section-level workflow step.
Why this matters
Today, an SME can mark every assigned question Answered / Reviewed but still remain incomplete because the section-level action has not been performed. This is a major source of user confusion, stalled My Work items, and support / training burden.

5609 — Question-Level Toggles as the Authoritative Task Completion Action
Current definition: Simplify the authoring workflow so question-level Answered / Reviewed toggles become the authoritative action completing contributor tasks and clearing My Work, removing dependency on section-level completion buttons.
Recommended update: Add the proactive role-aware next-action prompt and automatic section-completion behavior above as acceptance criteria.
