Customer Context
Oracle operates highly governed Q&A libraries where formatting actions can have library-wide impact. Bulk formatting actions, in particular, must be carefully controlled to prevent unintended changes at scale.
Problem / Opportunity
Currently:
- “Format Content” rights are available to Content Managers, not just Administrators.
- Incorrect or unintended use of formatting actions can affect large portions of the library.
- Permission controls are not sufficiently granular, especially for bulk actions.
This creates risk for Oracle, where a single mistake can introduce widespread formatting issues and require significant remediation.
Proposed Enhancement
Introduce more granular permission controls for formatting actions:
- Restrict “Format Content” permissions to Administrators by default.
- Allow separate, explicit permissioning for bulk formatting actions.
- Enable admins to grant limited or scoped formatting rights where appropriate (e.g., read-only, single-record only).
- Provide clear visibility into who can perform high-impact formatting actions.
Success Criteria
- Fewer incidents caused by unintended bulk formatting actions
- Reduced remediation effort related to permission misuse
- Improved admin confidence in delegating content responsibilities
- Positive Oracle feedback on control and governance
