I'm submitting this enhancement idea on behalf of my strategic client Fortrea.
Overview
• Fortrea's RFI & RFP teams frequently review and collaborate on lengthy narrative responses containing extensive technical and regulatory content.
• Reviewers leverage in line comments to provide targeted feedback on specific passages within these long responses.
• During quality control and collaborative review, users often open a comment without immediately recognizing that it is associated with a specific highlighted portion of the response rather than the response as a whole. This workflow challenge was discussed during our recent RFI team meeting.
Current Challenge
• When a user opens a comment on a long narrative response, the comment panel is displayed, but there is not any visual indication that the comment is linked to specific highlighted text located in the response.
• If the highlighted text is outside the current viewport, users must manually scroll through lengthy content to locate the associated passage.
• This can lead reviewers to incorrectly assume the comment applies to the entire response, creating confusion and unnecessary review time.
• The issue becomes increasingly noticeable with large RFIs containing lengthy narrative answers where the highlighted text may appear several scrolls below the visible portion of the response.
Proposed Enhancement
• Introduce a more prominent visual indicator that clearly identifies comments associated with specific highlighted text.
• Add a preview snippet or excerpt of the highlighted text within the comment panel, similar to threaded reply previews commonly found in collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams or Slack.
• Allow users to click the comment or preview to automatically navigate or scroll directly to the highlighted text within the response.
• Include an icon, anchor indicator, or other visual cue that immediately distinguishes in line comments from general response level comments.
• Automatically bring the associated highlighted text into view when a user selects the comment, reducing the need for manual scrolling.
Expected Impact
• Improves reviewer awareness by immediately clarifying the exact portion of content being referenced.
• Reduces confusion during quality control and collaborative editing of lengthy responses.
• Saves time by eliminating manual searching for highlighted content.
• Enhances the overall review experience for enterprise customers working with complex RFIs and long narrative responses.
• Increases confidence that reviewer feedback is interpreted accurately while reducing the risk of unnecessary edits or misunderstandings.
