Add Word-like Search Navigation for Response Projects
Problem Statement:
Customers have highlighted a gap between working in Microsoft Word and the Responsive Response Project module.
When reviewing or editing long responses in Word, users can:
- Search for any keyword.
- View all occurrences of the searched term.
- Navigate quickly between occurrences.
- See the context in which the word appears.
This makes reviewing lengthy RFP responses significantly faster. In the current Response Project experience, users can search for questions or content at the project level, but there is no in-document search experience that allows users to locate every occurrence of a word or phrase within the response content of the project.
Although similar search capabilities exist in the Content Library (where users can search across questions and answers), this functionality is not available while actively working inside a Response Project.
Customer Use Case
The customer is working on large RFP responses (1,000+ words per response and hundreds of questions). During review they frequently need to:
- Verify consistency of terminology.
- Find every mention of a product, process, or compliance term.
- Review all occurrences before submission.
- Quickly navigate between matches without manually scrolling.
They compared this experience with Microsoft Word, where the Navigation Pane highlights all matches and allows instant navigation.
Proposed Enhancement
Introduce an in-document search panel within Response Projects that behaves similarly to Microsoft Word.
Suggested capabilities:
Search within the current project response(s).
- Highlight all matching words/phrases.
- Display a navigation pane listing every occurrence.
- Show surrounding context for each match.
- Allow Next/Previous navigation between results.
- Display total occurrence count (e.g., "39 results").
- Optionally support search across:
- Current response only
- Current section
- Entire project

- Easier quality assurance before submission.
- Reduced manual scrolling and review time.
- More intuitive experience for users transitioning from Microsoft Word.

Customer Impact
This enhancement would significantly improve usability for customers who draft and review long-form responses within Responsive instead of relying on Microsoft Word. It addresses a common review workflow and reduces the need to export documents simply to leverage Word's search and navigation capabilities.
