Description
Today Smart Search returns relevant results and in the case of questions an AI generated response but it does not offer the ability to prompt the user to refine or rewrite their question. This capability exists in the AI Assistant experience but not in Smart Search.
Users have asked why Smart Search cannot help reframe unclear or poorly structured questions especially when the initial query does not return useful results. This creates an inconsistency between the two experiences and may limit Smart Search effectiveness for less precise queries.
Problem Statement
When users ask vague or poorly formed questions in Smart Search there is no guided way to improve the query. Users must manually retry different phrasings or switch to AI Assistant to get help reformulating the question. This adds friction and can reduce confidence in Smart Search.
Proposed Enhancement
Explore adding an optional question rewrite or prompt refinement capability within Smart Search. This would guide users to improve their query without converting Smart Search into a full AI Assistant experience. For example Smart Search could suggest a clarified version of the question or prompt the user to provide missing context.
Goals
Improve result quality for unclear queries
Reduce user friction and repeated searches
Create a more consistent experience across Smart Search and AI Assistant
