Prompting Ideas Megathread

Direct & Concise Answers

• “Answer the customer's question(s) specifically and do not add additional details.”
• “Provide concise and easy-to-read responses.”
• “Provide a concise, active voice, 200 words or less to the question being asked.”
• “Be clear, concise, and responsive to the requirements. Sometimes simple is best.”

Structured & Detailed Responses

• “Responses must be clear, comprehensive, and address each requirement in the exact order presented in the question.”
• “Use the client’s terminology where applicable, and include specific examples or supporting details.”
• “Structure the answer to mirror the structure of the question to facilitate easy evaluation.”
• “When generating responses, strictly ensure you do not repeat the same question or statement already mentioned.”
• “Present information concisely while covering all necessary details with variety in sentence construction.”

Contextual & Role-Based Prompts

Example prompt structure:

• Context: I am the Proposal Manager working with [Team] tasked with answering RFPs, RFIs, etc., responding as a global leader in [industry].
• Objective: Answer directly, accurately, and with enough detail for evaluation by clients.
• Style: Follow AP writing style, detailed without verbosity.
• Tone: Formal
• Audience: Prospective and current clients, risk teams, compliance, IT, legal, etc.
• Response: Concise, direct, include certifications, policies, and requested documentation.

Rewrite & Simplify Content

• “Rewrite the response to make it clearer and more concise. Keep technical accuracy and key details.”
• “Rewrite this technical response to an elementary level that a non-technical person will understand.”
• “Clean up the response to remove nuances and generalize to build a good base.”
• “Use AI to rewrite content to be more detailed, descriptive, concise, and professional.”

Security & Compliance Specifics

• “Expand on the following security response to make it more comprehensive and aligned with best practices.”
• “Clarify how this approach supports compliance with ISO 27001 and NIST standards.”
• “Best prompt example: Find and read policy document [ID]. Respond with what the policy says regarding isolating systems after a suspected compromise.”

Content Management & Summarization

• “Revise this response ‘insert content’ to less than 600 characters.”
• “Include key phrases or aspects, and make response persuasive focusing on cost benefits or competitive differentiators.”
• “Combine and summarize content from multiple Q&As, retaining critical points.”
• “Use a three-step approach: (1) Active voice description of benefits, (2) limit to 200 words, (3) revise to include bulleted list.”

Tone, Style & Voice

• “Answer in third person, with the person’s name being (company name). Vary sentence structure, don’t repeat the question as the first statement.”
• “Use a concise professional voice for feedback on performance reviews.”

Prompting Best Practices & General Advice

• Specificity is necessary; you can't expect the system to know what you are talking about.
• When I use the AI feature, I always ask for content in narrative form to avoid bullet points.
• Sometimes you have to consciously remove yourself from your environment to remember the AI tool doesn't know the full context.
• Telling the audience (evaluator) is very helpful.
• CONTEXT is everything!
• If there is a character or paragraph limit, include that in your prompt.
• One step at a time works better than complex multi-step instructions.
• Adding key instructions at the Project level helps keep responses consistent.
• Define size limits clearly (e.g., two paragraphs or specific character limits).
• It’s not just about the words you give AI, but understanding how to maximize its capabilities.
• When unsure about prompt quality, I ask AI how to improve the prompt itself!
• Prompting for bulleted formats helps keep responses concise and readable.
• I’ve asked AI to create documents highlighting specific info with bullets and give options for different formats.
• My prompts often include instructions to be concise and professional while preserving industry-specific terms and acronyms.
