Oracle is requesting the ability to export a list of all project custom fields and the associated values.
@Kimberly Bara FYI
Pablo, Right now we will be able to export Content custom fields (Merge tags) only. Because, for Project when we create a Merge tag, it gets created as a custom field as well. Meaning, you can enter the Merge tag value during the project creation, then it will be used across the Projects. So, if a user exports Project merge tags, makes some changes and then imports it back, it will get updated across all the Projects where it has been used.
So far we didn't come across the use case of a user needing to manually review and update the custom fields offline by export option. That's why we haven't included it. Being said that, we would like to understand the use case from your side on why you are asking for the Project tags export option?
@Khaleeswar : FYI
@Bagavathy Nagarajan @Pablo Ojeda Not sure if the client expects to make updates to the custom fields. My understanding was they wanted a way to share the current custom fields and their values to other BUs so people were not trying to duplicate. They have only a very few users who have access to the organization settings to view custom fields.
@Bagavathy Nagarajan Oracle would not use this to make updates. They would like to export the custom fields mostly because many of the users do not have access to org settings.
Pablo, Thanks for the clarification.
@Khaleeswar : Can this option be brought into the custom fields in Project module?
@Pablo Ojeda Why would Oracle has to share all custom fields exported as a report?
They want to control and keep track of custom fields being created and would like to export them to send to other managers that do not have access to the org settings.
@Pablo Ojeda Giving only export of custom fields will add value only to Oracle and not for our other Customers. To add value to other customers, we should provide ability to import back the report with updates. But we can do it in a phased approach. That said, Is this a must-have for Oracle? Can we go back tell them that this is a niche-ask and we will consider if our other Customers come up with same problem in future?
