It is unclear if this is expected behavior or a bug, so I have simultaneously opened a ZD ticket for the same issue.
At present, hyperlinked text will not retain character styles that are applied to it. They do retain paragraph styles, but this poses other challenges. For customers needing to use response templates and seeking to have hyperlinks be more visible both within paragraphs and on their own lines, the assigned template answer style is wiping out hyperlink coloration even when the matching character style is available in the template.
I have also found through testing that applying a character style to hyperlinked text is not retained in the UI as you navigate - which may be the source of the issue. If you specifically apply it and then navigate to the next question, upon your return to the original response with the hyperlink, the character style will either no longer be applied, or revert to any paragraph style applied to the body of text. This is not the case for regular text, which holds any character style applied to it.
The idea here is for hyperlinks to either hold character styles applied to them, or for separate customization of hyperlink coloration during export.
