Edit in word/excel for project documents to allow access to Desktop rather than online

Current behavior:

Under Project documents if we use option to Edit in excel/word, it directs us to office online.

Expected behavior:

The user has a complicated Excel document, and updating it online appears to cause performance problems and slowness, which occasionally results in data loss. They appreciate that Excel can be opened offline on a desktop computer, making it simpler to make small adjustments without worrying about internet lag.

This seems to be critical on their end and would like to see if this can be implemented in near future.

@sunitha I think we have to check on the slowness issue rather than bringing an alternate solution. Can you share more details

@khalees We also have a JIRA on the preview response slowness issue, which is being worked on, and their network may potentially be a problem. Nonetheless, the client has suggested or requested an improvement so that complicated excels can be accessed more easily: the ability to edit Word and Excel documents on a desktop computer.

@khalees The issue seems to not replicate for us. Only on the client end. And we do not have any video of it currently since they insist it happens sometimes and since they deal with large complex documents they prefer having to work with Desktop. We already have a Zendesk ticket created by them, however they did not raise this as an issue but a suggestion.

@khalees Yes with respect to opening via Excel/word WOPI is it only on their side. And their network issues seems to take a longer while to load the document.
