Dynamic update of figure numbers in an exported proposal

I have two clients (Swisscom and FIS) that have a large number of figures in their projects. Previously, FIS was using "SEQ" codes so that codes could dynamically update when exported. Ideally, the figure number would dynamically update in the export to show the section number and question number (IE, the footnote would be able to show Figure 2.1 for a figure in section 2, question 1)

When a proposal has hundreds of images, this is very time consuming for them to update manually, and often, large gov proposals will issue addendums, where new questions and sections might be added, so it's not a matter of "doing it once" when it could potentially change with an updated version.

FIS is upset because this was a capability within Qvidian and will be quite time consuming to them to fix on each proposal. Please consider this for future use.

I'm attaching the source file that shows SEQ codes in action. To see the functionality, find any figure number or table number and right-click on the sequential number (not the prefix, only the number after the hyphen), and go down to “Toggle Field Codes.” That will show you the code FIS uses to make the figure and table numbers automatically renumber in order with just a few clicks. You will also notice the figure numbers and table numbers have their own codes so that they do not intermingle.

Apparently this was a function in Qvidian and is causing FIS some headaches as there can be hundreds of these codes in a Gov (EBT Team, for reference) proposal. Can you look into seeing if we can match the same functionality or have any alternate workarounds?

@Khalees V - Have you had an opportunity to review this request and would you be able to advise if it is going to be on the upcoming roadmap? FIS is bringing this up again and requesting a status update as they are bringing their government team into Responsive and this is a key functionality for their figures and tables in their government responses. @Erica Nelson This is currently not in 2025 roadmap. But planning to consider in 2026. I will confirm once we add to the roadmap.
