Content to retain formatting specified in the table style upon export.

Requested by: Voya Financials.

User has created a table style in which the header rows should have white color font and the rest of the table should have black color font.

But when a table is exported using this table style, the formatting is applied only to the table and not to the contents inside it.

If any style is applied to the header row in the answering page, then that style is being retained upon export.

But the client wants the formatting applied in the table style to be retained upon export.

@Karan Just to confirm my understanding - There is a table in an answer and user formated it manually. Now user is exporting to word template with table style selected. The style is not applied. But the user's expectation is to export based on the selected style? Correct?

This is actually the intended behaviour. To fix this we need to study the impacts across multiple places (Impacts: Export, Import, Apply Styles, Table style, content inside table style, Answer Style, List style, Template/source export, etc). Considering the magnitude of the impact that needs to be analysed and changed especially since it impacts all customers(who are using it in this way), Plus considering the roadmap planned for Q1 and Q2 it might be difficult to commit any timeline as of now.

Is it possible to explain to customer saying that if "a formatting is applied manually and intentionally by author while answering then we will not override it upon export even if a style is selected in the template?" (Given the intentionally applied style is also available in the template).

Here is what customer did: They added a table to response and then applied formatting in the answer editor. Then upon export, they applied table style in the template. That is when the table style is not considered.

Is this expected behavior: Yes. This is how it is supposed to work. We give preference to the formatting applied in the question manually by the SME as it can be intentional. But i understand this is behavior is not called out or obvious to the user in the application.

Ideal / Expected Solution: System should let the user know that formatting applied manually during answering process will be retained and not the styles applied in the template during export. Also, it should ask the user whether to retain the applied formatting or override with the formatting in the selected table style during export.

Impact to existing customers: Yes. Changing the current behavior to what Nuveen is expecting as default behavior will impact existing customers. Hence the solution should be customizable at the customer level.

Effort Estimation: Impact and Effort is high to bring a customizable solution. At a high level, it needs a month of development and testing. This will fall under M to L t-shirt sizing.

When can it be implemented: As of today, i don't have this in my Q1 and Q2 roadmap. If we see a demand or similar need from other Customers we will plan for second half of 2025.
