We recently implemented Library Reference Merge Tags (largely at my persistent request!).
However, I am encountering challenges in creating them in the way implemented. The main issue is, for each record, you have to manually create and name the Merge tag. Customers (Especially in Investment Management sector) could have hundreds of records that need such a tag, so manually creating them one at a time is not realistic.
My recommendation is that we auto-generate these tags using an ID number to differentiate them.
