A way to stop the clock for project elapsed time

Hey Team,

Ryan LLC is interested in the ability to pause elapsed time on a project, the reason being that they go through their Q&A pairs after the fact and toggle which ones they want to add to the content library.

I told them that they could manage all of this from moderation, but Q&A pairs are toggled off by default, so it's only a few they really want. Adding everything to moderation would create a lot of noise in their content library.

They're open to other mechanisms to achieve this. Alternatively maybe we could look at a way to pull over Q&A pairs from archived projects into the CCL?

@bruce When you say "Project elapsed time" are you referring to the manual project timer in the project?

@khalees I was referring to the number of days spent on a project, reportable in the executive dashboard. I see that there is a manual project timer though, which could be the ticket here. Where is this reportable? Could we pull in data from multiple projects on the project timer using a custom report?

That table shows project stage, which is related, yes. Time elapsed in a project is controlled by the project being active, I believe. Ryan's concern is that if they don't archive right away after completion, the clock will keep running, making it look as if the project took more time to complete than it in fact did. They like to leave projects open after they're done working and before officially changing the status to "completed" so that they can toggle on save in answer library for certain questions. I recommended that they handle that process from moderation, but since it is only a few questions that they want added to their CCL, adding all of them to moderation would create too much noise.

Illumina voiced a similar concern this week. They're interested in having some kind of a mechanism for stopping the time elapsed for an active project beyond archiving since they may need to leave projects active for API reporting purposes. If they are to reopen a project that has been archived, it will look as though the project has been open the entire time.

The elapsed time - Do they refer to the time in the project dashboard?

Hi @khalees no worries! Good questions. I don't believe it's going to impact hours spent, no. I think the big concern is days that the project is open.

I spoke with Illumina about this last week and for them making completed date mandatory would solve this issue. I'll run that by Ryan next time I speak with them as well
